Moving From Planning to Improvement

Improvement Requires More Than a Plan.

Schools and organizations can have talented educators, committed leaders, extensive data, strong programs, and multiple improvement initiatives—and still struggle to produce sustainable results.

The challenge is not always a lack of effort or another strategy that needs to be added. Leaders may need to look more closely at what is driving current results and whether the people, priorities, capacity, systems, and actions surrounding the work are aligned.

Do people understand where the organization is going and what success looks like? Are actions aligned to the desired outcome? Do people have the capacity and support to carry out the work? Is implementation being monitored closely enough to understand what is working, what is not, and what needs to change?

Sustainable improvement becomes possible when people, priorities, capacity, systems, and actions work together toward a clearly understood outcome.
